South coast Tour

Post by mrdandandan »

We just got back from a 12-day south coast tour - it was ace! London to Lands End and back, stopping at Sussex, Stubcroft Farm, Purbeck, South Devon, Treen Farm and Shepton mallett/cheddar on the way home, (the bell at buckland, nice pub with attached camping- laid back).

I only noticed the miles racking up on the way back, got to 1005 miles in total, completely trouble free, started on the button every time and romped up all the big hills we met in purbeck, south devon and cornwall, so i'm chuffed!
DG engine is a bit more pokey than I realised too!
£260-odd in fuel, mind!

We did swimming, fishing, bit of hiking, cycling, teaching our nipper to ride her bike,
We found cracking field mushrooms quite a lot of days and a few ceps - brekkie sorted! buying food from the little honesty box veg stalls outside houses, farm shops and that. Cider, sweet sweet cider... Blackberries, mackerel.

September is a great time to go - nice sea temp and plenty of sun it seems. surprisingly, we didn't use heating either any nights, van stayed toasty with the family in there! I reckon its good till end of October.
It did rain a lot down in burnbake, however, but even that was alright, I quite like the sound of rain on a hightop and when you wake up and peer out under a thermomat. I managed to pick up a tick on my leg, pretty gross little bloodsucker, got to look out for lymes disease - nasty- be warned!

We booked a few spots and winged the rest/wild camping. No stress at all.
Saw a whole load of t25s on the m4 after vanfest too, all waving and none on the hard shoulder! Result all round!
