Anti Roll bar will not go back on
Todays job was change the bushes on anti roll bar as worn. Getting it off was ok putting new bushes back on not a problem but what are we doing wrong can't get the bar back on. Can get bar link in place with a struggle but does not seem to line up properly and as soon as we tighten everything up the bushes keep coming out. Could something else have moved? we are abit stuck now does anyone know what we are doing wrong.
Can anyone help please

Re: Anti Roll bar will not go back on
Just checked the damping ring (as changing these as well) it would appear that they are different that the ones shown on JK web site, the ones on the site have a rounded edge the ones we received have a straight edge. Steve put old damping rings back on now it lines up. Has anyone else ordered these from JK and had the same problem.

Re: Anti Roll bar will not go back on
original ones have a rolled lip which faces away from the rubber
aftermarket oem syncro ones are flat and stainless steel with a rounded edge
2wd vans use the same ones as golfs which I think are still available from VW, if not then from Brickwerks
I haven't bought owt off JK for several years as a lot of what they sell isn't what I'd want to fit to my van

Re: Anti Roll bar will not go back on
Hi Aidan don't think I explained right correct me if Im wrong but the item you talking about is the metal washer plate. The problem we have is with the rubber bush and rubber damping ring as in pics.

Damping ring for cranked anti roll bar pic has rounded edge what came had a straight edge.

Anti roll bar bush 21mm
This has been a learning curve to research research and research again, after looking on brickwerks site it would
appear we have ordered the wrong ones not our fault may I add we were correct according to JK cat.
With the explantion Brickwerks gave on ordering the size you require it made it clear our bushes were to big.
Will be ordering a new set from them.
Well we live and learn but at a cost could have done without paying out the extra but ha ho onward and forward.
Thanks for replying .

Biggest point of the learning curve is "don't buy from JK what you can buy from brickwerks"
Harsh but true, it's solved many a problem

What a long strange trip it's been

Ye in this case think you are right but unfortunately some parts we have needed Brickwerks have not had them, so ended up ordering from JK.
If you know of any other places to get parts from would appreciate this info.

Re: Anti Roll bar will not go back on
Brickwerks
GSF
Euro Car Parts
VW
vw-classicparts.de
there's also Heritage
all the above I use as suppliers depending on what it is, over the years we find what of what they sell is fit for purpose and good quality - VW first choice but generally most expensive and a lot of stuff is nla from them now, we had parts support for 15 years post production but that ended three years ago so now when it's gone it's gone
classic parts in germany where our old stock is now, again not cheap but genuine parts or oem quality and again not all parts are available
gsf have gone for cheaper suppliers over recent years so some stuff is carp; clutch slave cylinder at the mo is the dogs though, the bearings can be made of cheese though
euro don't carry as much but are good alternative and can be surprisingly good for some things like mirrors
Heritage have launched a T25/T3 catalogue now - a lot of their stuff is genuine (from classic) but their prices are 100% mark up on that stuff I note; they've also copied some products that were originally made by others, eg they ripped off SimonTMTs shortshift kit; I've not had any dealings with them at all, but others do use them as first choice supplier especially those down south
Brickwerks - as Simon actually works on these vehicles day in day out for last 5 years and before that too he's been through the various suppliers and sources and knows what's good, and has tracked down a lot of quality parts not tied to other outlets (JK seem to have Febi exclusive) and had stuff remade to fill in the gaps in the inventory
last resort JK imho but if you need thermo mats or coasters they are the place to go

Re: Anti Roll bar will not go back on
Thanks Aidan
Will keep these in mind for future reference.
On the parts we had from JK I rang them and explained the trouble we were having their reply.
Not had anyone else ring with same problem but they did say if we found parts from any where else
that fitted better they would refund our money. So going to try Brickwerks as theirs look the same as the ones we took off .
Heritage look the same as the ones we already have.
Thanks again for your reply.

Re: Anti Roll bar will not go back on
note also that new rubber bushes will need to be compressed quite firmly in order to get nut on first couple of threads so you can do the nut up fully, use of a big bar to press the link down is required- old ones will have become compressed/deformed; iirc new ones aren't round edged anymore
