advance under higher revs not retard...

AS said - thats correct although some people see it as the spark is being advanced and others see it as the engine is being retarded.

Have you checked that the ignition isnt 180 degrees out? these engines will run with the ignition out by 180* - there are many a story of bugs/buses and T25's running for ages with the timing 180* out

Right - I checked at the weekend and I was being a drongo... when increasing the revs, the timing mark moves anti-clockwise on the timing gun.

That said, I still don't understand why the timing mark if so far away from the 5 atdc but I can't work it out so gonna tune by ear by finding max revs then retard slightly and see how we get on....will tinker with when we go on next long run and see if overheating / any flat spots,etc...

Good news though - did manage to get the new speakers and stereo fitted this weekend - yippee; finally got tunes in the van
