Early stainless exhaust options

I have been looking at some alternatives to getting Brickwerks to fit me a vwspeedshop system and have come up with two options

JP Exhausts in Macclesfield which is only 1 hour away http://www.jpexhausts.co.uk/Site/Transporter.htm

Have quoted the same price as the late system.

The price is the same but we would need the vehicle here to fit the exhaust as the brackets are different to the later models and of course we don't have a pattern for your vehicle.

I assume they are saying they will fit me a late system but with different mounting brackets?????

I may be fretting a little over the removal of the rusty studs/bolts but should any exhaust fitter worth his salt be able to tackle the removal of a T25 exhaust confidently?

And what protection do I have should any 'mishaps' occur?

I'm only worrying because the van didn't miss a beat on a trip to Cornwall the other day and I'd hate anything to happen to the engine before 'it's time'.

The Kwik nit and other such exhaust centers should be avoided.
they simply do not have the experience to remove them without a drama.
The guys who do my van MOT and the old Scirocco are more than equipped to do the job without giving up and handing me back a van with a busted stud

I am leaning towards JP as they have been doing T25's for a few years

Had a word with JP Exhausts today and it's booked in for the late exhaust to be fitted to my early van. They will fabricate the necessary brackets.

Im still in same dilema. early DG 1.9 needing full s/s system. Just spoken to Brickwerks and they are not yet in a position to help (the main problem being that although they can supply a late s/s system for me to fit, there are NO supporting brackets available for the silencer - thus if I fashion some/have some made up and fitted, the warranty goes out of the window )
My van is still sat on drive with the old mild steel JK (early type) exhaust OFF it sucessfully.
Due to my back injury I sustained last week Im stuck at home but not able to do exhaust so no great rush at the moment!
Questions for you:-
1) When are you booked into JP?
2) The brackets they are making for you - could they make up two sets and could their fitting be photographed, then I could order THEIR system and they could send brackets to me with the system? (ie, use yours as a pattern?) I would need to know if this is an option asap as going to local stainless pipe place tomorrow with my old system to see if they can custom make same thing...
I did have a list of all the different companies who say they do s/s systems, but it seems each has some problem or other with the early systems! Its such a pain, as you know! Roll on the day when Brickwerks have tooled up their early system!

I'm booked to have it done the first week of October. However they will need to fit the exhaust to your van in their workshop for them to taylor the brackets to your van. I assume the warranty would be invalid if you made your own, just like the brickwerks system.

Tbh it's a nightmare. Even though I am booked in I am not completely convinced that they will be able to adequately support the silencer on my early van which still leaves the vwspeedshop system as the only other viable option.

I am going to have to make a decision sharpish though

local exhaust companies are as much use as a chocolate fireguard so..........

Do I get a JP exhaust fitted by them for £690? they say they can support the silencer on my early van

Or do I get a vwspeedshop exhaust, that fits early vans but needs a smaller oil filter, for £420 and get it fitted by brickwerks??

Just read the website properly and the vwspeedshop exhaust only needs a short oil filter on a 2.1 injection

However some who have fitted it say it's rather loud

empathy is the word Im looking for...aaarrrggghhhhh!

You consider the Speedshop one, yet :
a) surely that will need some sort of bracketry to support the weight of the silencer, even though it is a shorter cylinder length?
b) Other threads here have led me to understand that VW Speedshops after market service is pants? Dunno who/what to believe eh!

I spoke at length to Brickwerks. They have been really helpful, and imho would be the best, if they did the early system. They are tooling up that system as we speak, but it could be weeks or months from production. Doesnt help us atm, but will assist others.

Local s/s pipe place to me was considered but they have a staff sickness which means more waiting. I think Im gonna end up replacing my mild system with another mild system. Ho hum.....

I have decided to go down the route of getting the exhaust silencer mounts and straps for the late system. So I am no longer in the market for an early system.

If you find this post when searching lfor information on an early system look out for the brickwerks early stainless system which is currently in the planning stage and possibly due on the market sometime in the Spring 2011

Otherwise the only real solution is a www.vwspeedshop.co.uk system or get the bracketry for mounting the late system and silencer.
