Which car seat for Newborn??

Post by mikec »

Hi

We are due in December and plan to get a rear and forward facing 0-4 year car seat to set up in the passenger seat. We have a mid 80's T25.

Can anyone recommend what seats really fit well in the front passenger seat? We're a bit stuck and REALLY don't want a whole weekend of wandering around Mothercare and Halfords so are hoping someone can tell us what works???!! I have read somewhere the Concorde seat but not sure if that is just for newer vans.

THANKS!!!

If its a new baby you want a rear facing one.

We've used this in our 1981 van front pilot seat and it fitted very well, but it's for kids aged minimum 12 months:

For a newborn you'll only be able to use rear facing. We used one of these but not in didn't have the van at the time http://www.maxi-cosi.com/gb-en/carseats/baby/cabriofix

To be honest you're best bet is trying them out to see if you can get your seatbelt around it. I do know that Maxi-Cosi are pretty much the best otherwise.

Not sure where you are in the country but if you can find a place like kiddicare near you then you can take the van along and they will have someone help you find some seats that'll fit - lay out all the options for you.

Backward facing seat. However, when they were that young we put each of our little ones in a carry cot fixed to the floor behind the front seats. Maximum comfort and safety for them as far as we were concerned. It worked a treat until their neck muscles developed. Then we fitted baby seats in the back. My kids effectively grew up in our van and have had all their summer holidays using it. They are both grown up now and are still joining me for summer holidays in the van. Not surprising I guess. It is a bit like the catholic church or a footbal club. If they get the van bug early they are stuck to it for life.

I choose the maxi cosi cabriofix and the seat "easybase" attachment as it is designed for use with a lap belt - and it is really solid when strapped in so made me very confident.

There are a few seats out there for 9 months onwards that can cope with just a lap belt - cant remember what ours is now but they vary massively so try first.
