Oil light has started to faintly glow while driving

Post by ringo »

Its of no suprise to me that my poor 1.7d engine is getting a bit tired having done 156k miles.

The oil pressure must be getting a bit low as the oil light has just started to faintly glow whilst the engine is running. The glow disapears when running at high revs.

I have only done 2k miles on this oil change.

Whats the best solution to this ? Put a different grade of oil in ? Change the oil more frequently ? Go to synthetic oil ?

Tips appreciated !

Thanks

oil change, new filter etc, put some oil additive (for oil) in, if thats no good try a new sender, if thats no good try a new engine !!!

There's a good 1.9 D engine sitting in a T25 wreck on the Isle of Mull........

Perhaps a little far to travel!

it might not be the oil pressure, it may be the sensors, wiring or the dash console, open it up (the dash) and clean the contacts with a green pad, maybe swap the dash pod with some one elses to see if you get the same reult. to check the sensors you would need an oil pressure tester, Light should come on SOLID bright red if the oil failure system is working properly, also you should get the buzzer of doom over 2k revs with low pressure.
