ENGINE NOISE AND SMOKING

Post by margaret »

Dear All
Some help please; before I start talking big money with the garage; Im not very technical so please excuse me.

I drive a t25 TD 130 mile on the clock; new head gasket 6000 miles ago; previously trouble free; Just returned from holiday van ran well untill 200 miles from home when I heard additional engine noise; no lights on/ no over heating and no burning oil or water. After a further 100 miles the noise was louder and I noticed smoke coming out of the back on tick over; no loss of power , I was iddlng in heavy traffic and it kept stallinh which isnt normal for it, We made it home no power loss and still no warning lights.

Any ideas would be welcomed does this sound like an engine fatality?

Thankyou
Margaret

Well....in a situation like that, I get a long stick of wood, put one end against my lug hole and then touch various parts of the engine to see if I can locate where the noise is coming from. Its a very basic stethoscope but it does work rather well.

Sounds like a compression test would also be a good idea, given the symptoms.
