just dropped my tank to replace it with one i refurbed earlier only to find the filler hole on the one i dropped is much larger than my refurbed one !!, wots that all about ?

early and late are different sizes!

As far as I am aware the fact that yours is diesel makes no difference to the actual tank, just that there were changes and differences over the production years (mainly the change from a metal filler neck to a plastic one)
Early (large metal filler neck, 68mm? I think) ....Late smaller plastic filler neck (48mm ? ) then there is 'injection' (smaller plastic filler but with built in swirl pot and larger petrol feed outlet) and of course the syncro's which are different again.

OH well looks like ive got another tank to rub down and paint then as ive only got the large metal filler pipe, but i guess i will be able to fill up quicker like them F1 drivers !!! ,
