Getting my 2l Aircooled engine reconned (or scooby?)

Post by stevewright76 »

Think our 2l Aircooled is on its way out - she's eating oil like no tomorrow and running VERY hot.

Have been told of someone up in Scotland who reconditions engines - any ideas on who that is or a good place to have the engine out, reconned and replaced (rathert han playing out for a vege engine from JK)

Have considered a subaru conversion - anyone know who does that?

I had the same problem/dilemma, I went down the route of getting the AirCold re-conned by Laurie Pettit who is based at Eyemouth, nice bloke and sensibly priced
He has a good reputation,

get your Aircooled reconned.

i used vege for our old one

scooby conversion will be much more as you have no cooling system so all that has to be retro fitted along with heater matrix etc

if your after more power do a search for dellortos

Thanks for the recommendation - will look into it. Was talking to SWMBO t'other day about Berwich and the north west.

Thanks Jason for scooby tip - worth knowing. Not really after more power more on the 'if it's going to cost a LOT how much more to actually be able to go quick?' thinking!

Got a pretty short reply from Laurie that he "no longer do water boxer engines."

Had put 'Aircooled' in the subject line and said it was a 2l LPG converted 1982 t25... Tried mailing back but no reply yet, will try giving him a bell but wondered if there's anyone else good out there?

Are vege engines not well regarded?

I had my 2ltr Aircooled engine reconned by Nigel Allen (Brooklands, Tregaswith, Newquay, Cornwall TR8 4JG Tel: 01637 880301), he’s also got a good rep. He's got a good set up and is always fully booked up...I've got to wait 3 weeks before he can even look at my engine again.
I just hope the 12 month warranty on my engine that he fitted a couple of months ago is honoured after it blew up on the way back from Dartmoor - I'm sure it will be as I have every faith in him and it was just one of those things.
