I know it's worth more than what I paid but as for what a fair price for it is...I just don't know. If you use the adage "it's only worth what people are willing to pay for it" on this van then it appears I'm stuck with putting it on an auction site. I'd rather it go to an enthusiast for a few hundred less than pay those fees to an auction site while realising the funds I need to use rebuilding my latest van. Rest asured, the next van I'm getting is a lot less individual as finding a measure for this one is a mare!

Believe me only a 'nutter enthusiast' will pay £13K for a 20 year old T3 VW!!
I suppose a minter/special Westy Syncro goes for (well advertised for) £12K plus. And they are dirty, common as muck LHD!
Thanks for that Karl, fortunately there are some nutter enthusiasts around (lad I know is currently on 40K on his Beetle build ) but I'm aware times are harder than they've been for a while. Just getting someones experienced assessment on it seems hard at the minute, your's is the third so far. As it is I've just bought a 2WD Westy (very common and mucky) which needs substantial TLC but should be ready for next years family outings, funds allowing.
Do drop by at Vanfest as it's good to see the faces from the forums.
£16K! Damn! I thought that it was a nice van when Cornish Pete was selling it but that is some astronomical appreciation for the addition of wind deflectors, a gas bottle and a few extra miles! Like anything in the World, it's worth what someone will pay for it.

o.k. my opinion for what its worth....
lovely looking exterior ( 10 out of 10 till the roof is up )
rather let down by the underside.( a bit of powdercoating on the armour and a steam clean wouldnt hurt )
conversion smart but not as nice as a reimo or a westy. (i may be biased)
looking at the pictures i see potentially a good deal of catch up maintenance.
i think that the difference between a 7k van and a 15k one is that for 15k i would expect to get one like new and wouldnt expect any trouble from it for the forseeable future.
but like others have already said, its worth whatever anyone will pay for it.
i guess you have to see what else is available and price it accordingly.( i always think of the "replacement value" i.e how much it would cost to make another van similar which in the case of a really nice syncro camper with low mileage could easily be 10k+ if you do it properly.)
if the mileage is genuine though its a real bonus as they arent getting any younger and right hand drive is another bonus in the uk.
where were the ozzy ones built though? that might have some bearing on its longevity.

a collector will pay top dollar for it but a user is likley to favour a westy syncro. i`m biased as i`m a westy fan aswell as a t3 fan. a lot depends on what has been spent on it. i recon good westy syncro £12k ish. good syncro camper £8k. for me yours would be somewhere inbetween to a user.
Yes the miliage is gen, it spent the first ten years in a garage pretty much. I'd be interested in what catch up maintenance there might be though. I know what you mean about Westys as I've had one and just bought another, but it's just to take the interior out and build my own. The Aussie interior is more 90's basic in style but you do get running hot water, drawers, removable cooker (which we've found a bonus,) and a shower Oh, and the van was made in Graz, Australia.

well when were the gearbox and front diff oils last changed ?
Mileage isn't everything, these vans don't like being stood, they were designed as daily drivers, drive them into the ground or service them regularly for a long life
chances are Australian vehicles weren't undersealed to the same extent as european vehicles, SA ones definately weren't which is why a lot of them imported into the uk have been scrapped cos they couldn't cope with salted roads

Not sure on the oil changes but the last couple of years servicing was done by Gasure so I'll have a flick though later to see.
Drive my Westy home last night then got back into the Syncro for a drive. All I can say is that everything is a lot tighter and beefier int he Syncro...guess that's what you'd expect anyhow. As for daily driving, I've been doing that since January in the Syncro and I've loved it. Biggest pain I've had with it so far is selling the bugger!
Probably just stick it on eBay and be done with the hastle.
