Hi Everyone -
Well I was driving back from a party last night and suddenly my van struggled to get into 2nd gear. I immediately pulled over, thinking the gearbox had given up.... when I noticed that the gearchange rod that runs underneath and the into the ball joint had come off where it meets the little CV joint, just before it goes into the gearbox.
Now I've not had a super close look at it yet, but I'm just wondering if this sort of thing is common and how easy it is to get spares etc..
Any help greatly appreciated
Matt

If its any consolation mattydubster, mine is like that. I used a polythene bag over the joint after cleaning and regreasing with the two held together with loose cable ties - enough to provide the movement needed but not so the bottom cup drops off. Will get around to renewing that section with something better but the cable ties work
I'm sure they are available as spares but will be approaching that one with a fresh mind and seeing if I can actually make something more substantial.

Mmm it all looks a bit weird, been looking in the Haynes manual and it's called the 'guide ring for rear shift rod' As I look under my van it is totally disconnected from the rear shift rod and the boot is completely split open. Don't fully understand what you mean about the tie straps Covkid, are youy using them to keep the guide ring and rear shift rod together? Think I really need to get under there and have another good look!

basically the shift rod passes through a couple of nylon bushes before finally ending up in a bellows-covered ball joint. Post a pic so we know what you're referring to.

Well now having looked under my van in daylight(!), my problem soon became obvious -
And you can see the worn teeth...
I was just getting confused when I saw the rod end that had come completely away from the guide that's mounted on the gearbox. Didn't even notice that this ball joint thingy was loose
I guess one lesson learned here is that I really need to actually look properly at problems before I think about posting on here
