Just lost reverse, second and fourth

Post by comfybadger »

Looks like it's my turn to have gearchange issues. 5 speed box. Reverse is just possible with a bit of luck, second and fourth are unobtainable. Gear linkage looks like it is doing it's job.
Any pointers?

as said ^^^ 1-3-5 work so lateral movement out, rotational is good so splines must be loose fore and aft.

My problem appears to be wear at the rear linkage but not on the linkage but the splines projecting from the gearbox

Someone tell me this is an easy fix, I'm hoping it is a "pop off and replace".

Someone must know how to sort this. Is it a box-out fix or can it be sorted in situ.

Aidan's your man for this. For starters I think I'd source a new or secondhand lever and see if you can get a reasonably good fit, even with the wear on the splines. The one you have will be worn beyond repair. Then see if you can lock the nut down (additional washer may be needed) and some kind of tack weld from nut to lever? Just reasoning it out with what you've got left. :D
