Rust, initial thoughts??
Hi all,
looking at a potential buy, van generally looks good.
Rust on one door step, and bottom of o/s sill
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab24 ... C_0978.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab24 ... C_0980.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab24 ... C_1054.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Trying to decide if I should buy based on photos, MOT due in 3 months, anyone think from pics that this will fail test?
Any help gratefully accepted.
Dont see the step as a problem, but unsure about the sill.
Dan

Re: Rust, initial thoughts??
Depends on the tester but I would suspect that hole through the sill will need a bit of attention to get it through the next mot. Some testers have been known to fail the step too if it's rusted through.
Both are luckily not too much of a pain to sort out and apart from the odd patches of tinworm, it looks pretty good.

a hole on the rear arch near the bottom is a fail as its near the rear arm..you can buy the replacment parts for it fairly cheap.it will deffo need welding up

Cheers all for replies.
Oh dear, might need to pass on this then, dont know any welders near Dartmouth Devon that do "economic" welding repairs, last car cost me a fortune for a patch on a sill.
It means me spending my entire stash to get this and tax/insure, wouldnt mind if it was say 6 months or a bit more before test to give me a chance to get it done

Re: Rust, initial thoughts??
you can buy a welder for under 200 sheets..cheaper if you buy second hand.the repair panel for the back lower edge is about 20 quid..go on..learn a new skill
it all depends on how cheap you are getting it i suppose but if you have a t25 already ..pretty soon it WILL need welding doing somewhere and you could be equipt to sort it out yourself and the welding plant will pay for itself in no time

lol! Yes plans are to get kit and learn, 1st T25, never welded in me life (dont suppose its anything like soldering pcb's?)
but I have no where to do it, no drive no garage, so its on the road!
Might have to accept 'm streching too far financially for this to be realistic, not 100% sure, its the best I've seen so far, not necessarily the cheapest.
Like all good dads and grandads, need to keep a bit back for xmas

In a previous life it would have been bodged and believe me the tester would not have picked it up. But that was on bangers that were intended to last 1 more year. Plans are to keep T25 3 to 5 years, and I know a bodge is more difficult to repair properly, so dont want to make things difficult next year by cost cutting now, this I think is going to become a bit more of a passion (sorry missus) than a vehicle

Re: Rust, initial thoughts??
By the way, is the cost of mot on T25 same as a car?

fella in Brackley glues new panels on with automotive panel glue
been doing it for 18 years. Never had a panel fail.
Panels on a t25 are cosmetic in essence.
