inner front wheel arches

Hi
I was thinking of cleaning all the muck away and painting inside the front and rear wheel arches, any advice on the best kind of product to use, first time posting we have had the van 6 years and recently renewed all the wheel arches so want to try and protect them as much as possible. If this goes well going to try and clean and treat underside so advice on this would be good as well.Ta
