If you are considering a S/Steel exhaust system...
Hi All
following my thread "What exhaust" dated 11th August 2010:
I will be going up to Longlife Exhausts in South London at some point next week
http://www.longlife.co.uk/
Ive been in touch with them and they can make a custom, complete system (my van is a 1900 DG, early system) which importantly will be guaranteed for life, and the warranty is transferable to any future owner. Quote was £589 inc fitting and VAT. Would hope to arrange some club concessions... Furthermore they will build it to sound as quiet, or loud (!) as you require.
They have bases across the UK
I have lots more info to hand but no time to post right now, and need to get up there to view their work etc.
I propose to be there when they build mine, and do a picture thread on 80-90 with all the relevant info, so people can consider them for their own systems. I know there are other, great systems, available for you peeps with LATER DG engines but Ive had the Devils own problem finding a complete EARLY s/s exhaust supplier, so aim to take a little of the time and trouble out of YOUR day, if ever you need a new shiny system
SO..........
if you will be considering a S/S system at some point, could you pop your name on this thread over the next week please? that way I can guage interest and go to Longlife armed with some numbers etc...
fanks eversooo

I'm booked in at the Brickwerks for a week in October for an early exhaust and I'm currently considering the vwspeedshop. The noise surely cannot be any worse than mine at the moment
My problem would be the lead time as the van is my daily driver and that week ties in with my shift pattern.
Having not much idea myself about the ins and outs of an exhaust change what cover/competence would they have over removing ancient rusted and crumbling exhaust studs?

Nope, not on commission!
I was sent link to their site and have done bit of research. Just hoping it saves others time.
Wont be able to answer the q's re supply only (although I have already mentioned it, so will get an answer)
Due to our vans being, as Cruz put it, 'crumbly' (!) - I hope they will get a jig and therefore be able to make em and send em out mail order stylee.
As first post, just let me know if interested, and that will add weight to my case when I go there...
onwards and upwards chaps.....

good work fairwyds,
I am after a new system again depending on price, but am very interested.
im in the ' more noise the better' camp so its good that they can build to spec.

Does the guarantee cover LPG systems? Some (won't mention names) exclude vehicles with LPG conversions.

Hi
Good stuff - meant to call you about it but didn't get round to it over the weekend - apologies.
The guy from Longlife messaged me too and I'll have to get in touch.
As I said on the other thread, we'll need a new exhaust soonish, and for that price (VAT & fitted too) sounds reasonable - and if you manage to work some discount magic then Happy Days.

Interested in SS system for a CU engine. I would be running heat exchangers, si it would just be back box and tail pipe unless they come up with a nice manifold and side box that I could get past the wife.

I have a feeling that it may take 6 hrs to remove the old exhaust...... this may well necessitate the removal of the engine to drill out all the sheared of exhaust studs that apear to be made of

Re: If you are considering a S/Steel exhaust system...
axeman was mucked about by Longlife (Reading) a while back - they said that they'd make one for one of his T3's (2.1) and having left the vehicle there, he got a call later in the day saying they couldn't do the job...because they feared snapping off the exhaust studs! What kind of exhaust manufacturer/fitters are they then?
I am however considering taking my SA there anyway (I know the manifold downpipe studs are OK) as the alternative was Cheesman's (Woking) but a 1-off in stainless would be £1300
