MPG

I'm not the greatsest mathmatician and am trying to work out my MPG and would like to know yours, for a comparison.

I drive a DG 1.6 manual petrol (refurb from elite) T25 High-top with body kit (heavy I know) the mixture/timing has been been tested and tuned with a CO2 device too.

I can do 200 motorway miles on average with £50 of fuel @ £1.18p a litre.

My calculations say thats 25p a mile on average which seems pretty high

Not checked my tyre pressure for awhile but unsure if it would contribute greatly.

Could you let me know your MPG, peeps I've spoken to including bays range from 20 to 25 MPG.

Worked out about 24mpg on a 2.0 Aircooled CU engine. Apparently this is quite good, economy can go down with worn Solex carbs which can happen about 80,000 miles.

I get 18 MPG on LPG with a 2.1i

about 21-22 on Petrol

all normal mix driving

I've got a 1.9 dg with a solex carb (not the original I believe but I didn't fit it). On long runs I get roughly 27 (ish) mpg but on the last big one (fresh oil change too) I got 29.4mpg - damn pleased.

Type pressure and oil do make a difference so do check ASAP.

£50 / £1.18 = 42 litres

42 L = 9 gallons

200 miles / 9 G = 22 MPG

22mpg for a petrol..about right I'm afraid.

1.9 diesel (non turbo run of the mill nothing fancy no Tdi/intercooler/double reverser upperthruster reversermeroid or any other fandango), currently getting between 35 and 37mpg, ok, its slow up hills but it still gets there, faster downhill, definately!

1.9dg petrol high top gives anywhere between 20 and 26 mpg depending on how/where driven. T4 2.5tdi with stainless straight through exhaust gives 36 to 38mpg driving it like I stole it...)

Agreed. I calculated 24mpg from my DF on a recent 500-miler around Scotland. I was quite chuffed!

Although certainly not legal, I've often wondered if on a long journey you dipped the clutch on descents, whether the MPG would start to climb above 30MPG or whether it would make no odds. Theoretically you should save quite a bit - not advocating it, just musing the theory.

I have got into a habit on long runs of only building up speed gently and checking whether I can back the throttle off just a little and still get the same speed. That alone has given me many extra miles on a tank. When I learnt to drive I was taught to work down the box when slowing down - never quite sure whether that actually uses more fuel or less.

Ouch, you not thought about doing an LPG conversion. I know I have. Everything seems to point towards Gassure & Elite VW as the recommended places. With fuel prices LPG has got to be worth considering if you put in the miles.

I've read that you get 18mpg out of LPG but it costs less so £ for £ you are probably getting the equivilent of 30mpg compared to cost of Petrol alone if my maths makes sense to anyone else
