Oil change on new engine
Hi, I'm after a second opinion, I've been advised to change new oil in a new refurb engine I had fitted about 500-600 miles ago.
Also, anyone recommend oil type/brand too please?

Re: Oil change on new engine
Yup, some literally run the engine for 30 minutes then change it (bit anal if you ask me) but 500 to 1000 miles after a rebuild is the norm.
You are looking for 15W/40 mineral for the flat fours, the same if it's a diesel but look for one that says specifically for Turbo Diesel engines NOT one that says 'also' suitable for Turbo Diesel engines. Any brand really, you don't need to spend a fortune.
For example:
http://www.caraccessoriesandparts.co.uk ... al-5l.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Oil and filter changes 3 - 5,000 miles thereafter with the same (at least anually)

Wiggly worms well and truely opened....
But there used to be some validity to the comment you made: back in the days (Pre-70's) when the only oils available were mono grades.
Since the introduction of 'Multigrades' (oils that have special additives that make one oil behave like two different thicknesses of oil) there is no need to carry out seasonal changes.
Ever wondered what the W in 15W/40 stands for? you guessed! it's WINTER. as in suitable for winter use.
