Hey up.
Thinking about my engine up-grade. Has anyone ever fitted their own gearbox oiling plates?
Simple job? Nightmare? Special tools?
All opinions/experience welcome.
Hi Karl. Having seen the insides of my front diff and SImon's gearbox at Aidan's place and the effort & tools required to just get the damn thing apart I'd happily pay to have someone do it who has done it before. Simon coughed up for the plates for his & I believe that Aidan has a local machine shop to drill & tap the holes. I expect he'll be along soon!

It's a simple open it up, dissemble gearbox down to shaft level whilst measuring all the criticals then drilling and tapping the case accurately in awkward positions then clean up the case and reassemble and fit the oiling plates with locktite and ht fittings as you go whilst similarly measuring the criticals and dada, simples
I have provided Baxter with the critical position information and fittings information so anyone that buys a set will have that information to go with.
My local engineering shop have made up the necessary tooling (that sounds proper doesn't it - it's only an extended tight clearance bit extension and a couple of guages) to enable them to readily do the job as required so I just take them the stripped case and get them to do that, then clean the case and rebuild the box fitting the plates as I go.
If anyone wants to send case to me to have them machined that's fine, you'll be looking at £50 plus shipping, that covers the cost of the machine shop and my local transport costs and time
now that Simon has the plates in stock in the uk means I don't have to stock them or buy them in from Germany and can get them next day from him
