Fridge RM122

Post by paul66beetle »

Is there a quick easy way to tell if the fridge is working?

Just acquired my T25 recently. Did one trip but packed the fridge with Ice packs anyway, and recently found out that it only works on 12v with the ignition on!

There was a light wired into the switch housing (i had never seen it lightup), which I tested on 12v and thought the light didn't work assumed blown bulb it was a bit old and it broke when I tried to get it out so I binned it. After fixing a broken contact within the switch (12v side) I then figured out that the bulb was actually wired up to the 240v part of the switch so it may have worked after all. I haven't hooked it up to mains yet.

Anyway I've replaced it with a 12v LED and wired it up to the other part of the switch. Left the ignition on for quite a while and it didn't seem to get that much colder. How long do you have to leave them before you notice a change?

Looking at other RM122 switches of the same era they do not appear to have lights so I pressume this is an add on at some point.

I have got all the original paperwork for all the camper appliances so if anyone wants copies I can PDF them.

Instruction manual implies it can be upgraded to run on 240v. I will scan the manual.

Seems odd that they didn't fit a light or something to let you know it was on.

Going to stick with the original Autohomes wiring for now, will have to take some pics and upload them but its all orginal and the 240v is all wired up and yes it is an Electrolux 122. I do agree most documents on the internet state that the 122 is Gas and 12v only.

Look at the data plate inside the fridge. Left hand side I think. If its a 122 it will only have 12v and gas info. 123 was 3-way.
If you want to run a 122 on 240v. Wire a 12v plug on it with a 6a fuse and plug it into the cigerette lighter when driving and buy a 240v-12v transformer for the hook-up. Needs a 6a or 7a transformer (about £18-20).

Just pulled out the ancient paperwork and it is a 122 running on mains!!! It has an addition kit from Electrolux to convert it, its part number 439248-00/6.

The installation is pretty neat and genuine Electrolux parts. Now all I need to do is test it all see if it works. :mrgreen:

Just acquired my T25 recently. Did one trip but packed the fridge with Ice packs anyway, and recently found out that it only works on 12v with the ignition on! That's how it's supposed to work. The 12v feature is so you can run the fridge whilst driving. At 12v the fridge consumes a lot of power and will flatten a battery in next to no time so it's only meant to be used while the engine is running and the alternator can supply the power

There's a lot in the downloads section in 'Club Stuff' for those that haven't got the manual(s) like this http://www.club80-90.co.uk/pages/downlo ... xRM122.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Spot on answers, just the kind of info I was after! I think I can probably add to your PDF collection, the PDF guide you have is for the RM122(F) I have the earlier one, and also the PDF for the additional mains kit! An Autohomes manual too, along with a plethora of other manuals which I cant see on your download page.

I realised thats how the Fridge was supposed to be wired after a good old read of the manual, but couldn't find the answers on how long you need to run the fridge before you could tell if it worked.

It's not only the download section that contains this sort of stuff - the Wiki's good too :D

https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Sc ... er_manuals" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have a meander round in there; you won't believe how much useful stuff it's got. I have no idea how you'd add you fridge stuff as a pdf though - you might have to ask for special access or email them to a moderator to get them included if they're not already in here somewhere...
