knocking noise from the rear

Post by el sketcho »

My van seems to have acquired a knocking noise from the O/S rear whenever I go over speed bumps. It seems to happen when it's under compression, like when it rolls down of the bump. That tire has recently been changed to get through the MOT.

Anybody got any ideas?

Andy

I kinda hope it's a wheel nut. I changed the shocks and springs last year, surely they would've gone already?

Could well be a CV joint. If they're getting dry and get in an awkward position/angle (and a speed bump might well do that), they can make all kinds of noises only for noise to vanish again.

How would I go about checking the CV joint?

If you changed the shocks etc. make sure the bolts are tight on the shocks. Had this when I changed mine, had to do them up tighter than expected to stop them moving when going over bumps!
