Starting problems

Post by captain Byrne »

Having trouble starting my 1983 1.9 DG when it's been rested for a few days. It takes about 30 seconds of cranking before it springs into life but once it starts everything is fine. It's ok when it's been sat for just a few hours but anything longer than a couple of days & it struggles to start. It has a Piergurg carb, choke is working properly, the battery & alternator are fine. No smoke when it does fire up so my only theory so far is lack of fuel. Any suggestions appreciated.

try dropping a little fuel down the carb after its been stood a while if it tries to start straight away then you`ll know its fuel related.if you fit a spark tester whilst your at it then you can watch while someone else turns it over and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
