Noisy Starter Motor

Post by drippytap »

I have a 1989 disel 1.6td and it starts fine but after the orange light goes out and you turn the key and maybe flick the accelerator the engine fires up but there is a awgul horrible grating whirring noise from what i can only assume in the starter motor. Is this an indication that its on its way out and I should be prepared

Usual sound when the starter motors shaft/bearings are dry and needs to be lubricated where the gear slides along it. A few drops of engine oil on the shaft should sort it.
Starter motor take-out jobbie though to get to it!

Worn bush in starter motor. Take it to a repairer and get them to rebush. Takes about 5 mins. Got mine done for a tenner.

[E D I T] Someone got there before me...I'm assuming a little more wear than he is....he could be right[/E D I T]
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.
