Re: MOT fail Brake Hose
the reason those hoses are fouling is that they are the lt hoses and given out by gsf because thats what their system recomends as an alternative they are short by 20 mm and should have two protective sleeves one for the drop over the chassis flange and one to protect from rubbing further down

Re: MOT fail Brake Hose
Unless someone does it before, I will measure up length of new one in morning and give you part number,(just out of shower)
Out of interest would you take a picky of it in full lock to see how the hose is stretched

Re: MOT fail Brake Hose
I think the length depends on whether it's a late or early van. Just ask Mr gsf for a ticket in the gsf parts lottery and keep your fingers crossed!

Re: MOT fail Brake Hose
Just looked-up the length of front brake hoses for a 1984 van and for 1989 one. Looks like 1984 = 400mm and 1989 = 460mm.
Out of interest I also checked the length of early and late front brake hose for an lt (after reading Doug's post above); 1984LT = 330 or 460mm; 1991LT = 460mm.

Re: MOT fail Brake Hose
just as an update to those lovely people who offered advice!!!
just had gsf deliver the in house recommended 1981 front hoses
the part number is 657VG0070 and the desc on the label says VW L.T
I measured it and it comes out at approx 410mm including bolt ons
so im assuming these are gonna be fine................
thanks again

Re: MOT fail Brake Hose
Ah well!
The hose is connected to the metal baracket with a spring clip (did you get 4 new ones with the hoses you bought)? if not all is not lost,
Yes you grip by any means you have the hose ,spanner if it will but not fussy as theyre gonna be scrap, 7/16 or 11mm spanner on the tube nut on end of brake pipe which its good to see must be copper/kunifer ( brass tube) .
When refitting hose through hole then spring clip over end of hose and the tube nut being tightened compresses the spring clip and hence hold the flexi hose on place.
