faulty fridge

hi all just back from 2 weeks in bonny scotland and had to pay for electric every night due to the fact the fridge would not work on battery power but was ok if i kept driving for hrs but if i stopped for any length of time the fridge would defrost cant understand how it works when travelling but not when static has anyone any ideas as to fix thanks

The fridge drains far too much power when just relying on the battery alone so will probably be set up to only run from the battery when the engine is running and keeping it charged.
When parked up you will have to rely on either mains or gas, whichever one you have.

The last post was correct, Mains hookup or gas is the only way to use the fridge when static the 12v setting is only to be used when driving to next site not to be used with engine off really as it will drain battery quick time. It works ok while driving as it is only meant to stop defrosts between camp sites it won't get mega cold but will maintain the temperature it is already at.

thanks for the replys thats good to know now will have to see if it works on gas.
