MOT fail Brake Hose

Hi all

my poor van has just failed on both front brake hoses.
"front brake hose has insufficient room to move resulting in fouling on any part'

I dont really understand this as these are the same brake hoses that have been on the van for 3 years, why fail now?
how do i make them so the dont foul? new longer/shorter hoses?

ther're dirt cheap to buy so wouldn't worry. Better to replace than to fail

Easiest thing to do is ask the tester exactly what he wants to see when you bring it back.
Then do what is needed.

A few years (6 ?) ago there were some aftermarket ones that were too short, makes you wonder if you've got them on.

It may be clipped up in an inapproriate place. Just jack up that wheel and turn it through full rotation and you'll see whats going on.

im not sure how long they should be - I can see where the tyre has been rubbing so im just gonna play safe and replace the.

Are GSF ones quality OK

Just bear in mind that if you replace it and it rubs anywhere on retest, they'll fail it again. Generally its the correct positioning of the hose when its tightened up that makes all the difference.

How about treating your van to some braided hoses from Brickwerks? Then you know you're getting good stuff. Early or late van, both on this page:

would you by any chance have changed the wheels or lowered it since last mot. seems odd that they are only failing now, something must of changed. to check whats happening the suspension needs to be in its operative possition ie not jacked up. turn to full lock and see whats happening, you`ll find the flexi fouling on something or you should anyway.

on newer cars we see this quite often and its down to design not faulty fitting. the only differance is these new cars are all fitted with some sort of protector to the flexi, sometimes a plastic coil sometimes a rubber doughnut but we pass and advise on these as its not technically the flexi thats fouling anymore.

what ever you do make sure the tester is happy with it as some testers have different interpretation of the rules.

nothing at all has changed since last MOT - except the testing station...!
the rear of the front wheel is clearly rubbing it but if I try to move the hose it looks like it could easily get hit by the suspension!
these are standard pipes so in a bit of a quandry as to what to do!?!?!

my van failed on both front brake hoses (rubbing been ok for 11 Mot's) so i did all 4 of them cost £17.00 off ebay also had to replace 4 brake pipes (they snapped ) i did them so i now no all brake hoses and pipes are new (all brake pipes new last september)

there`s some serious rubbing going on there and if it was mine i`d want to sort it. saying that they can be a pain to get right sometimes as you move them one way and they hit the body a little the other way and they hit the tyre.

id rather them rub against the body if there was no other choice but you should be able to get them right on a t3.

it looks like the flexi sleaves have been rubbed right the way through to the flexi itself and even i`d fail that. possibly last year they had not rubbed deep enough to reach the flexi and as such may have been a genuine pass. however i`d advise on the appropriate paperwork so that the owner knew of the possible dangers.

Ive just done mine and your look to be fitted with the correct brackets etc, but they look a little short? also on the flexis I have , the sleeve fits near to the chassis end so as the flexi hangs/sits in the verticle position it affords some protection against the lip on the chassis, will try find a picky

Yep, those hoses look too short which could explain why they've been rubbing.
