throttle cable adjustment confusion

Post by sjmtlewy »

I think my throttle cable needs adjusting, as with the pedal all the way down the little arm on the carb is about 8mm from the stop.

All the posts I've read have said this can be done at the carb end, by adjusting something. However, my cable is terminated by a little metal blob and I can't see how to change anything:

Also, if I ever need a new cable, where can I get a LHD one? all the ones I've seen are RHD

Adjust it under the pedal, no where else.

you'll spy it through the indicator. Rest one of those cheap led lights from pound shop on chassis, it makes it a lot easier to see and adjust. Mini mole grips on the cable nipple and an 8m spanner on the pinch nut release. bit of an awkward squeeze but quite doable. I kept the throttle pedal up with a spring onto the dash. the springs are old ones from the back brakes. 2 joined together were a perfect length.

Unfortunately i'm LHD, so the linkage is directly above the spare wheel. No choice for me but to get down on my backside. It's also a nightmare to get the plastic cover off as there are a dozen hoses and cables surrounding it.

All done, cleaned greased and adjusted. Not too hard, just needed a decent screwdriver to get the mangy old screws off.
