which exhaust for a 1Y?

Post by campercrazy1 »

will the standard 1.6d fitit , and even it does will it reduce the upgrades effectiveness, i was wondering whether a turbo diesel exhaust would be better or even fit, i notice the mating at the exhaust mainfold end looks diiferent, but could it be adapted?

i would have thought by now..seeing as how many people have changed their engines to a 1y..that some clever persons would have been able to make a downpipe for sale so that you can use your original 1y manifold.you can use the original 1.6 manifold ,downpipe and exhaust..you will still have more power than before but it is restrictive.
c'mon clever peeps..make a downpipe that normal folk can afford and get it on the market :ok

i have the original exhaust on mine but with a homemade downpipe thats connected to the 1y manifold.the downpipe is 50mm but has a reducer on the end so it runs into the original 1.6 exhaust.id like to see how it performs with a bigger back box on but if its marginal then i dont want to have wasted my dosh..and there arnt many back box's in the scrap yard that would suit the t25

hey weldore, i was thinking of getting some 50 mm tube and having a crack at making a downpipe myself, did you put a 'flexible' section as suggested on the thread you sent me and how did you make the mating flange that goes against the mainfold or dd ou geta 1y scrappy exhaust

the flange was just some 8 mm(i think)plate cut to size and the holes drilled for the studs and a 50mm hole saw for the pipe.then i got some bends and straight from work and cut and welded em together.its all done in mild steel so its gone a bit rusty now but still good.
no i didnt put a flexi pipe in yet as the original setup doesnt need one,it might be a good idea though
