How hot does a/c tinware get?

Post by Gunslinger »

I was going to clean up my tinware and spray it with 2 pack paint same colour as the body work but will they get too hot for the paint?

Now I don't know if this is fact or mythology, but all the Aircooled mob seem to say things like "unless you want it to overheat, keep the tinware matt black (inside and out). Chromeplated tin seems to be the worst for helping them to get hot. This is all for pre-type 4 motors, though :?
Those that do go for colour-coded tinware don't seem to end up all blistered and burnt (engine, not owner!)

That all seems a bit bizarre doesnt it?
I was thinking of coating the underside with just black and the upper side in body colour. I'll perhaps give it a go and report back :ok

Hello,

I've been painting tinware inside and out, engine block and heat exchangers with Hammerite on all sorts of aircooleds, VW, porsche, Mag Deutz, Citroen for 30 years. Never had a problem.

I'm just finishing a silver case, black tinware 1973 1600 twinport.

Dont paint the cylinder barrels.

Use black hightemp paint, (for wood burning stoves)on the exhaust spigots and silencer.

Cordialement, :ok
