campsite suggestions in bath area?

Post by Dazmundo »

Hi we are heading off on our maiden camping trip in a couple of weeks to visit my sister in Bude Cornwall. We live in Hertfordshire so thought we would break up the journey with a stop over and thought that somewhere around Bath might be a nice stop. Has anyone got any suggestions of places to stay park up around that area, or anywhere else along that route if you know somewhere better?

Cheers

If you are looking for a free camp spot then the university carpark can be used at Bath.

But this is a good one.

You can cruise along the A4 rather than the M4 and take in such sites as Silbury hill and Avebury before turning in for the night. The campsite is opposite Lacock abbey, where the cloisters on harry Potter are filmed, and a very picturesque village.

You can then cruise down towards Bath and Glastonbury, back on the M5 near Bridgewater or Taunton.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

It hadn't occured to me how booked up places would be, I guess it is the summer holidays, I just assumed that there would be spaces at most sites but it doesn't seem to be the case!
