If I have a key number from the barrel of a lock, where can I obtain a replacement key from?
Feel free to move this tech if it needs to be there...

Re: Door lock key numbers
vw dealer only with number, basically they cut to a known pattern that's coded to that number, you need to be pretty sure that it's the right key number, ie you've checked all the doors and they all have that number on if you are trying to get a key cut that you hope will do the ignition - the ignition lock isn't numbered visibly though even when you buy a replacement so I don't know how they did that

Re: Door lock key numbers
Hey up Sarah, just checked out my short slider handle and there is a teeny weeny grub screw in that plugged up hole...
Pick out the plug and use a tiny flat blade driver to unscrew it and with your key in the lock you should be able to pull the barrel out to swap them over

Re: Door lock key numbers
Hey - thanks Andy - I'll give that a go, if I get a handle...
Thanks Aidan - I have found a long handle on ebay, slapped a bid on - it don't have a key, but still has the metal shaft with the key number etched on
So, I now have 2 options - either swap my barrel so I can use my key, or get a key from VW dealer (if I win the handle I'm bidding on)

Re: Door lock key numbers
three options actually just get the lock barrel tumbled to suit your key when you win the lock
I can do it so can Baxter he offers a service I believe, I've still got a few tumblers left in my kit
