Just replaced them and the steering coupling square (which had quite a few splits in it) at the base of the steering column under the rubber hood in the cab. Took me 2 1/2 hours and a bit of swearing. Feels so much better when turning now

How easy was it to change the steering rack bushes?

Does anyone know how hard it is to change the 2 steering coupling rubber squares underneath the van as I suspect they are just as buggered as the one in the cab? I have no access to axle stands if they are needed.

E D I T: Anyone unsure as to what I have been on about regarding the cab situated steering coupling and steering column bushes see the attachments below

First is the new bushes (2 per van) and coupling
Second is where they fit on the van
Third is the old knackered coupling I removed

Did the steering rack bushes in my dinner, which is 30 minutes. Was on a 4 poster ramp though..Just undid the 4 13mm bolts/nuts, then knocked the old bushes out. Tbh they almost fell out, fitted the new bushes with grease supplied in the kit and bolted it all back up. :ok

The one nearest the rack is easy enough, not sure on the other one though.

Other then the 4 bolts where the bushes fit is there any need to unbolt anything else for access? I've heard some say they unbolted the coupling nearest to the rack

I've also read that there are purple bushes and a softer yellow version available that's a bit more forgiving.

I undid nothing else, just the 4 bolts. I have the purple bushes (didn't know there is a choice)...more than happy with them.

I've done both mine, and a few others on-site at Syncro meetings. The front one connected to the relay box can be a bit of a so and so, depends how you tackle it. Need jack stands ideally. if anything taken off splines then accurate marking up beforehand is advised. Steering centreing must be retained accurately!

We have seen bolts missing/broken before... , fortunately they bind and sort of retain steering

The steering coupling I assume. As Simon was due to fit one for me later in the year but what with the new exhaust, service, rear drums and maybe the shiny early front brake disc back plates I have spotted on his webshop that he never used to have in he may be a bit busy so I got off my backside and did it myself

Of course, thanks... they sure don't last forever, but due to the bash-plate on syncros MOT don't always pick them up

I have slight play on my syncro van steering.

if you hold steering wheel at 3 oclock and 9 oclock and push up towards the windscreen and then down towards the floor it clunks slightly, doesnt clunk any other way though.

My other syncro does not have any play at all, so something must be wrong.
Will these rubber bushes your talking about fix this.
