My engine rebuild is finally nearing completion, i just have a few questions so i can finish putting it together in the morning.
I took the oil pressure switches out to replace them and like an idiot forgot to mark them, then realised they are different colours, now i dont know which one goes where.
One is black and one is grey, can anyone tell me which one goes by the push rod tubes and which one goes by the water pump?
Also i put the oil relief valve back in the engine and pushed it up the hole, it sits there and doesnt drop out but does spin around. I assume the oil holds it in place i just want to make sure that sounds right? (I know when the spring is put in that holds the valve up, i was just abit worried the valve might be worn and sticking to the sides)
The last thing is the flywheel oil seal, should i tap it all the way in as far as it will go so it pushes on the shims? (the picture in my manual isnt very clear)
Thanks

Re: Oil pressure switches & flywheel oil seal
what colour were the one's you took out in the photos you took before removing them ? and before you removed the oil seal you did photo it and note the order of the shims as it came out didn't you ?
And you have got the end float right before fitting the seal ?
seriously though grey is low pressure switch and seal goes flush with case face not in as far as it can

Re: Oil pressure switches & flywheel oil seal
Thanks for the reply Aidan,
They were grey and black so ive bought the same colours to replace them
I didnt take a photo of the shims as they all fell out before i had chance, but i know the order they go back thats not a problem.
I did get the end float checked at an engineers
Ok so the seal goes flush with the engine thanks for that
So if the grey sensor is low pressure would it go by the push rod tubes or water pump?

Re: Oil pressure switches & flywheel oil seal
When you say "grey sensor is low pressure would it", do you mean low revs, rather than low pressure? because both sensors measure low pressure just at high or low revs.
If i am remembering correctly the grey one senses high revs (2000+ RPM) low pressure and goes near the water pump and is a right hassle to get at once the engine is in.
The one at the bottom of the engine senses low revs (at idle) low pressure but i think they come in different colours, ours is black though.
If you know which of your sensors senses what then just put the one that senses 8-15 psi in the bottom regardless of colour.
I'm sorry i cant be exact, there used to be a great link on the wiki but its not working any longer unfortunately

Re: Oil pressure switches & flywheel oil seal
Cheers for help Leo,
The grey switch works at 13 psi so are you definately thinking that should go between the push rods?

Yeah sounds right, if there the wrong way round i'd imagine the light and/or buzzer would be triggered anyway .
Me and my bro have had quite abit of bother with the buzzer of doom!
