Timing and over heating problems on AAZ

I have been having problems with overheating on my AAZ conversion and it may be due to incorrect
belt timing as I have had the head off once again and there is evidence of the exhaust valve marking the tops of the pistons.

On looking at the timing on the flywheel through the inspection aperture there appears to be an arrow some distance before top dead centre and a definative v cut out at TDC and an arrow again after TDC
On timing the camshaft and pump which of these marks should the belt go on when the camshafts locked with the set bar and the timing pump sprocket hole lined up withg the hole in the back plate.

Is it the mark before TDC
TDC
or the mark after TDC

Advice would be appreciated Thanks

i had exactly same problem it's the notch in between the 2 arrows if you can call it that. it looks more like a moulding mark.
you could also have the problem of not having the flywheel in the correct alignment as apparently there's nothing to stop you fitting it anyway round.
also if it's a conversion you may not even have the correct flywheel on there. so i'd try the notch first and work from there

If you are just one notch out you will have real bad tick over, loads of white smoke, and just real poor acceleration.

The fly wheel will only fit in the correct position.

With the cam shaft in it's set position and the hole correctly positioned in the sprocket, there is an amount of error that can be found on the pointer to the fly wheel - this is normal as it is just a start position.

If you got contact marks - you prob got bent valves, or at least sticking valves. :(
