1st gear problems

hi, just had my first time camping out in my t25. It all went fine apart from had to start off in 2nd gear most of the time. It goes into 1st but when i pull away it just pops out? So i have a few q's would it b the gear linkage, is it easy to do for a diyer with a few basic tools and how much would a garage roughly charge?

Any info would b great or something to put me on the right path to find out whats wrong. Many thanks
