thermomats on plastic windows

Post by janieh »

Hi All

We've got a westy that has the plastic double glazed windows. Used the thermomats with the suction on my last camping trip, and left up for a couple of days on one side. On one of the windows we now seem to have a permanent mark where the sucker was. I think this may be as it got quite hot. However, just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems? I know that they're designed for glass, but I don't want lots of marks on the windows.

cheers

Unfortunately brasso didn't work, neither has wd40, or any other general cleaners. oh well. I think that generally you should avoid using suckers on the plastic windows. If you can't then definietly take them off asap in the morning and especially when the sun is on that window.

I thought thermo mats were for single glazed windows...
So they create the double glazed effect of keeping the cold out/warm in?

or were they being used to keep the van dark....

We have given up on using them in the rear. They don't stick very well and if they do they leave marks. They don't stick that great to the cab window either. T-cut is more abrasive then Brasso you could try that, but as mentioned before do a test area. Or use a polishing mop drill attachment, on a slow speed with the Brasso. You can get one from Halfords for about £6.

use a caravan window polish , most places like towsure and the like will sell something , even ebay will have it

I wouldn't be using a drill buffer on it , well not just yet anyway , it could turn out to be a very expensive sucker mark if you melt the plastic

Yeah, the mats are just kampers ones. For whatever reason they left quite bad marks. I think it was the heat.

Anyway, thanks for the tips. You were right - I spotted some T-cut yesterday and that really helped remove the marks. Hurray!
