2.1 aqua, oil pressure sender advice

Post by robber_roo »

Hi all

My oil light has started to flash and the annoying buzzer keeps going off at low revs after a long drive.

I've changed the oil, the level is fine.

I want to fit an oil pressure sender, the gauge is already fitted Smile (vdo) i just need a sender but i have no idea what i need.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

roo

What oil have you been using??

Cheap solution, is to replace the high low pressure sender (next to water pump) with a new one.. I'd recomend that you get one from Brickwerks as the GSF ones have a quality control issue... that way you will know its real and not a faulty switch..

If its a VDO gauge best to get the VDO sender.. plenty of sellers of those.. needs an extension pipe though as it wont fit in the current oil pressure switch position.. (under engine behind left pushrod tube protector, this is the low low oil pressure switch)

a few issues spring to my mind.
What oil are you using?
engine milage?
have you checked the pressure relief valve is ok?
is your tickover speed too low?
do you have over heating issues

I had none of your issues before fitting a gauge, once fitted it showed what I had already, a healthy oil pressure at all speeds.

re pressure gauge
decide whether you want mechanical (cheapest, easiest) or electrical .
I chose mechanical
For that you need
* A tee piece that screws into the low pressure sender location,
* A length of micro bore tube that runs from the engine to the dash board.
* Mechanical pressure guage

if the gauge is electrical you will need
* A tee piece
* A suitable electrical pressure sender (try Demon Tweeks)

Thanks for the replies : )

I'm using Morris Performance Plus 15/40 Mulitgrade Oil.
Tick over speed is fine.
Pressure relief valve ? Where do i find that? Sorry I am trying to learn :lol:
Mileage 228,000 :shock: Runs fine apart from the buzzer

Oil pressure relief valve is accessed from the bottom of the engine, you undo what looks like a big flat circular screw with a flat head screwdriver.

There is a spring inside and the valve. I know the spring can wear which is only cheap to replace, im not sure how the valve wears, i assume it just gets stuck.
