Draining coolant - where is it - help!

Post by uniB »

I've just drained my coolant out but removing the bottom pipe from the radiator. All good but there's only about 8 or 9 litres that have come out. Header tank is empty heater controls are set to hot (top two sliders to the left, bottom one to the right – is that right?!), I guess there's coolant still in the engine. Is it possible to remove the rest of it, or should I just flush it through with a hosepipe and then refill as it is?

Wish the 'drain' section of the Wicki had something in it!

there are two drain bolts in the heads ( petrol ) , they are between the push rods tubes , you will need to remove the PRTube covers if fitted , I wouldn't remove them unless your exhaust has been off in the last few months and the head bolts are known to be good. Also is the header tank cap undone ? and is the rad bleed screw undone
I'd go for the hose pipe in the header tank for a few minutes to flush it out
Are you parked on a hill ? did you park nose down ? will help with the drain and refill if you are :ok

Not on mine it wouldn't be. The centre slider needs to be on the right hand side to open the valve to the heater matrix....

Ha - yes, getting my left and right mixed up  I meant they're to the right.

Thanks T'onion, I've hose piped it through and also removed the main coolant pipes at the engine and flsushed those through. I've got the coolant for you buy the way!

Drained it all down, gone through the whole refilling rigmarole, temp still travelling up to beyond the red light on the temp gauge. Not happy! Ordered a new header tank cap 'cause the old one had a crack in the pipe which can't be helping matters.
