camping gas consumption

Post by Martin & Lynn »

hi we have just finished the dregs of the gas bottle we got with our bus, its a 4.5kg butane calor, question is ......
On a full bottle this size how long can you say run the fridge for ? are they gas guzzlers? most of the time we'll have hookup but there may be the odd night in the wilderness.

thanks

Cool, thanks for that Kev. Only got my fridge running this year so was wondering if I would see a dramatic rise in gas usage.

I rarely use hook up tho so the fridge is running on gas whenever we're onsite/parked up etc.

Topped the leisure tank up before we went away at the weekend and since The Duke last December, including lots or wild camping and cooking it took 8 litres of LPG or 4.78 Derbyshire pounds

This is the underfloor leisure tank not the main road fuel tank .... I've used a bit more than a fiver's worth this year

4.5kg will last a couple of weeks; 24/7 fridge and cooking on hob (Nicky heats lots of water for coffee) Use furnace and can be reduced to a 3-5 days depending on how cold it is.... and if it's really cold butane won't vaporize so no heat. We use lpg year around.

when i was using the 4.5kg calor bottles, mine would last between 11 and 16 nights away, counting a day out as a night away, fridge on 24/7 and kettle on almost as much.
thats feeding a 2 burner and grill hob and a rm2200 fridge.

since i changed to the underfloor tank i have used £19 worth in just over 3 and 1/4 years, but my fridge can be on for 3 or 4 weeks at a time when its hot, to keep the soft drink cold, wether im away camping or just traveling to work in it.

Does the gas freeze up in an under slung tank?
Is LPG propane or butane?
How many litres or KG does the average underslung tank hold?
