diesel engine cuts out

hello,i have recently installed a 1.6td diesel from a paasat into my 81 1.6d t25,i have bled the fuel thru but when i try to start it fires up for a few seconds then cuts out ,has anyone had this problem or knows what it might be cheers dave

I and several others have fitted non return valves on the fuel line between the filter and pump, not sure if that is your problem but it is a good starting point.

When it runs does it struggle to run?

What colour is the smoke out the exhaust?

When was the engine last run?

hello,it doesnt run at all with the jx fuel pump it just fires up then cuts out straight away after about a second,i put the passat pump on and it does run ( black smoke on revs but i guess it needs a good clean and a run)not sure when it was last run cos i got it from a breaker,cheers dave
