Ignition woes - part 2

Post by orangebooboobearcrew »

Hello,

Having our second bout of ignition problems and after having been towed home by the RAC a few weeks ago, can't get a spark for love nor money.

Been through the Bentley manual checks now after having replaced the coil for the correct Bosch unit (electronic ignition) from Brickwerks (brilliant customer service by the way) and also having changed the ignition amplifier. Still nay spark :(

My gut feel was the Hall generator within the dizzy. We have tested this using the Bentley tonight via checking the voltage from the amplifier plug pins 3 & 6 after grounding the lead from the coil at the dizzy end then turning engine over by hand. This was supposed to give an alternating current of between 0 - 2v but seems to be giving a constant 10.15 volts which I think is the battery voltage.

Does anyone know whether this mean the Hall generator is FUBAR'd? I have not long changed this with a unit from JK and gonna be well p*ssed if I've gotta replace again  Could this have been damaged during towing or is it just yet another example of more s*ite from JK? I've checked that there is voltage at the generator and this is fine.

Any ideas before I spend another £100 odd with the proper replacement supplied by Brickwerks?

Cheers All,

Chris

Sorry,

Also does anyone know if the Brickwerks Hall sensor has the original smaller sized wiring connection clip?

I noticed JK have a new clip listed at £1.50 but as per usual there is no meaningful description or even a photo and loathe to give them any more money given the cr*p they keep supplying me...
