Been trawling net.....can anybody help, where can I get a oil temp sender ? : :run

I have a golf mk2 engine in my van, the oil cooler has a built in temp sender and oil pressure switch. Not sure if this is compatible with standard wedge engines (anyone)? but it looks similar. If it is, you may be able to put one of these in.

Sorry, also a bit of a hijack. What should be the optimum oil temperature in an air-cooled? Was thinking about getting an oil temp gauge fitted.

Re Aircooled Stuart..
Should be no more than 130 degs C..usually much less - around the 100 mark.

there are a number of places to put a sensor in an Aircooled engine stateside tuning do one that fits in the relief valve, though I would need that explaining, others tap into the sump through the taco plate, and the other is the dipstick.
the second one would be "in the wind" so I guess some sort of shield would be needed

for WBX the best place is where the primary oil sender is, VDO do a gauge that replaces the pressure sender, the sensor wire is grounded to stop the buzzer going off and red light flashing , so long as you have a pressure gauge together with a secondary warning light this is acceptable.

Monitoring oil temp is , I think a good thing, head temp and water temp are ok but the life giving blood of these engines is oil and if it gets too hot ....bye bye crankshaft

i've just fitted one from stateside that fit in the relief valve its neat and tidy and out of the way

this is what i used for the oil temp gauge on my van 2.1mv, removed the oil presure high presure switch, between the crank pully, and installed it with a little ptfe tape to seal it. this is the corect thread, should work with the air cooed as well but you should cheak.

£18.95 for the adapter my engine was out so it was easy to fit not to sure if it will be a pig if the engines still in the van.I had one in the sump before this but is open to cold air so i had to fit a metal shroud around it.Theres a guy on vzi selling a adapter plate that replaces the one in the sump but he wants about £40 for them.If you send us your address you can have my old adapter for the sump if thats any good to you.I got my gauges and senders from earlyvw.com paid about £70 for oil temp one and a oil pressure one and the senders come with them

if the air cooled engine is anything like the air cooled engines that went in to beetles/splitys or bays, which have an oil presure switch on the side of the engine below the altinator stand then you could install a brass T peice and mount the oil temp/presure sender on the tee peice. if like on the wbx you could get some pipe and locate it in a conveinent location as i have done. this is just for the oil preasure.and i have installed the temp sender that i put a link to in the high presure switch location.

i had to source the big Pclip from an airplane part shop on the inter-net as it was the only place i could find one. i then made some looms for the cables and run them front too back using conduate and heat shrink. as you can see in the pic.

demon tweeks do the t piece aswell and its got a length of braided hose connected to it aswell so you don't have to cut your tin wear it's abit pricey though at around £26
