Gearbox / clutch / mounting? "clunk"

Post by squarepants »

Hi Guys looking for ideas. I have a 5 speed '89 1.9dg Autosleeper. Had a recon vege fitted about 5000 ago.

On moving away from stationary, there is a clunk just after moving away. From the guts of the vehicle. Not particularly loud but definitely signficant. It happpens whether you pull away in first or second (not a gear thing?)

It doesn't happen when you go between the gears when moving. Thoughts? :?

Mountings clunk when under load i.e. an engine mount when cornering, a foooked gearbox nose mount will judder when setting off in 1st or especially when reversing.

CV joints click under load, i.e. on corners. If one's come loose you need to check now rather than when it comes off in the middle of a junction or in the fast lane

I take it a new clutch was fitted ? Are the engine top nuts and bolts and bottom nuts ( ) tight ? Who fitted this ? Take it back before meddling if still under warranty.

TBH anyone worth their salt would have fitted new engine mounts and a new clutch .... unfortunately many 'mechanics' these days are screwed with a vehicle age higher than their IQ, if it's not a Paxo or a *unto they haven't got a clue. That's why we luuuuurv the known good ones, Brickwerks, Si toomanytoys, Gasure, Mercdoctor, Syncronutz, VW Elite etc.

Makes you wonder if the clutch is sticking on it's splines or the release forks are worn ?
