rocker cover gasket, a/c, fit dry?
I'm replacing my rocker cover gaskets tomorrow as they are weeping a tad. Do I fit them dry, or should I apply a little grease? Or indeed, another substance?
Thanks
Stu

In a word...Grease..
You can use Hylomar but its a so and so to remove if you have to remove the covers again. I would use grease...

Thanks ..thats one question I don't have to ask.doing mine on Wed....

Re: rocker cover gasket, a/c, fit dry?
use blue hylamar but only onto the rocker cover face, not onto the cylinder head , and let it dry before fitting rocker cover , this way it stops the seal moving in the cover when trying to force the steel bail over the rocker cover

No...!
No grease at all. Full stop!
Can't understand why anyone would want to smear a load of grease around something thats going to be surrounded by oil anyway!
They must go on dry. If you add grease or oil etc. they will slip and move causing an oil leak. The whole rocker cover and top of cylinder heat mating surface should be grease/oil free. When pressure is applied to the gasket by the rocker cover and clip, the pressure will prevent further ingress of oil around the outer edges and the gasket will stay where it is put. Otherwise expect some major oil leaks!
Good advice from faggie above BTW.
