Clutch slave strap fix

Find hook end of strap; make a 2.5 ft loop at that end; put loop through gap under starter motor, drop down o/s of bellhousing
Connect hook into exisiting hole in n/s edge of slave bracket
Bring other free-end around slave as shown and down n/s of bellhousing, avoiding driveshaft/CV joint
Connect up tensioner ratchet
Hold slave in position (towards bellhousing) and tighten gradually ensuring strap is even and not caught up, watch slave for position and distortion, tighten tight.





Very close to drive shaft but doesn't appear to be rubbing (despite appearances)..

100% solution, garnered only 2 more clicks since we did it up originally, probably not necessary. Aidan said don't go mad in case it actually compresses pushrod & clutch slips...

Thanks for a fabulous weekend on Syncropendence, we had a great time. A big thank you to all the organizers; to Clive and Glen for their off-road instruction; to Patrick and Aiden for the greenlining on Monday. I learnt so much as to what my van can do, and have developed a much greater appreciation and love of my Syncro, it performed perfectly all weekend and I now realize just how quick and powerfully it climbs up slopes. It has spurred me on to get the engine bash plate sorted so I can drive the rocky bits with less concern.

P.S. Ozzie had a great time too (Aiden thanks for the biscuit!)

Glad you both enjoyed the weekend and found it useful. It was good to see a different & rare Syncro too... and Ozzie of course, a real cool dude!

PS. 23.5 mpg on return journey + a bit of running around. Mmmm

Richard, got a piccy of the cover plate (inside view)... ?

One reason could be bump-starting, which damages the spring-steel torque straps in the cover plate
If a spigot bearing goes early, can be due to a spigot shaft edge catching it on the way in

Wouldn't have thought a needle bearing would ever be manufactured duff (1 in a few million maybe)
Clutches, very rare, but possible, always inspect first I suppose...

I'm told SACHS are considered as good as anything

This should definately be in the wiki, a good one to know. Rachet straps are an essential piece of kit, used mine to hold engine when mounting bolt sheared, also seen them being used as spring compressors and to hold in blocks of wood to replace the broken seikels by your man at Syncro 25. In fact the uses are endless well worth the money and should always be in the van imho

glad you all enjoyed, looked like you had a great but eventfull time. seems like i`m destined to not meet up with you guys. we were totally set to miss bvf this year and come before i got ill. my clutch action with the left leg is still not good but it wont be long i hope so maybee next time.

even with a lowly 1.9 DG..........

Dramatic means trying too hard and breaking something.. I dont like breaking stuff.. dents and bent can be pulled and straighten'd, broken and snapped is costly to replace...

Maybe some others should have driven it.. but the concensus was that ir was far too difficult and potentially damaging..
