Cornwall campsite recommendations??

Hello hello!

Heading to Cornwall for a week or so on 16th July. Visiting friends near Falmouth, and doing a day at the Eden Project, cider farms (someone else has volunteered for driving duty that day, hurrah!) and hopefully a few surfing lessons (got the VW now so it'd be rude not to!!!!!).

Looking for laid back campsites with a good view and/or beach that won't mind us having a few beers/bbq and staying up late-ish, but not full of wasted stag nighters full of booze and drugs. Near a pub is a plus, but not necessarily near a big town.

Someone recommended Henry's, right down on the Lizard. Any experiences or other tips absolutely welcome!!!!

Blue Hills near St.Agnes is excellent, we have the annual Bashtie there and Gary and Lou the owners are T25 friendly ... the phrase 'Laid Back' was created by Gary I'm sure.

If you're gonna spend a day at Eden I recommend that you spend the night on the South coast just outside Gorran Haven at the National Trust car park above Volt Beach. One of the best for snorkelling and surfing (winter only) in the area. You can also sleep on the beach well above the high tide mark with no fear of being harrassed by pi$$ed up wasters as they'll all be in Newquay. Especially the underaged trippers that seem to stumble off cliffs having drunk alcohol that their parent willingly supply them with - sorry but some parents just shouldn't be

Anyway, to get to the beach go into Gorran Haven (head out to Pentewan/ Mevagissey outside and south of St Awful and keep going to the top of the hill - you'll know it wehen you get to it - turn right and keep going and you'll end up there) and just before you drive off the end of the road into the harbour beach turn up the (steep) hill on the right and follow to the top and you'll see the car park sign (its on the seaward side). If you miss it just ask and someone will point you up the right road. Mind the large pot hole in the grass and earth car park as you drive into the rear of the carpark through the hedge or you may bottom out! Loads of people "stealth camp" in the car park and tent on the beach. It's very laid back and friendly. £2 honesty box payment for a days parking.

If you see a white VW high top and an LDV long wheel base high top then I'm likely to be on the beach. I'm planning a trip there to meet sister (strangly from Penryn/ Falmouth) and friends for a day and tea on the beach.

If you're gonna do the surfing then head away from Newquay...there are loads of surf schools but the place will be rammed. Try Hayle and St Ives for a more laid back atmosphere or even Perranporth. There are loads of choices. Generaly, the further west you go the more relaxed the atmosphere. St Ives is also a far nicer town and has everything that you could want. Loads of campsites with all the trimmings all within walking distance of the beach.

If you fancy an established campsite near St Austell there are loads - Touriste Information is behind the JET garage on the by-pass.

Hope this little lot helps. And I hope the stunning weather we've been having holds up...make sure you bring loads of sun cream.

Fab site at Treen. Beautiful views as righton the cliff. Village pub at the end of the road. Nice and relaxed site.

Have spent many a happy time at Gwithian farm campsite...red river pub across the road and then theres the Godrevy NT car park up the road and the 3 mile stretch of beach, plus surf school..oh and possibly lots of seals on the beaches if you do the godrevy pennisula walk...

We stayed at Perran Sands, very kid friendly and within walking distance of Eden.

If you walk to Eden and tell them they give you a huge discount.

HigherTown Farm Campsite, Lansallos, near Looe.
Quiet, rural campsite very near to the coastal path and at £4 a night, can't argue.
It's a National Trust campsite so just check out their campsites web page

We're going there too in a couple of weeks, so useful recommendations for us too! We always seem to inadvertently plan our holidays when the schools have just broken up – how bad a re the camp sites down there at the beginning of August – are we going to stuggle to get in places??

Ooh, we have been pretty lucky then... just booked a pitch at Gwithian 18 and 19 July!! They normally only take 5 day minium bookings in July and August but had a gap to fill. Our pitch is also available after we leave on 20 and 21st if anyone is after it!! I think we might be going just before the schools break up... although here in Scotland skool's out already!

Willard - liked your advice and might pop in there for a subsequent night! My passengers want somewhere to plug the straighteners in though...

Boardmonkey - cheers! Will probably book a lesson at Tyeson's too.

UniB - We also looked at Treveague Farm (near Gorran Haven) which still had spaces if you get stuck.
