What's this & how to remove it?

Post by Nicola&Tony »

I'm trying to drop the exhaust on our lt31 and it's all ready to go, apart from this bit is still connected to the catalytic convertor:

Anybody know what it is (looks like some sort of sensor?) and how to disconnect it? Looks like it would take a spanner at the bottom end, but that would twist the wiring I guess.

Engine is 2.4L petrol (digifant injection).

Grateful for any info.

Tony

it's a lamba sensor, god knows how to remove it,
i think you find the other end where it plugs into loom, undo it there, pull the wires down and then unscrew the sensor, make sure you dont lose the sealing washer when you take sensor off,

Thanks very much for the quick response, much appreciated. Just been on the phone to Rozzo and he said the same. Back out to the van for some hunting around then.

Thanks fellas! :ok

no worries.
you can get proper sockets to undo these but i think they are quite expensive,
one thing i will say though is, try and get the plug and wire through the whole on the end of a closed spanner rather than use the open end of the spanner because these are good at 'rounding' off, leaving you no 'flat' parts to get a spanner or socket on,
sometimes they undo quite easy,
all the best :ok

Unplug wire, a 22mm spanner or the special tool for removing them that is in my tool box, shame you don't live closer. Put some copper grease on the thread when you refit it :ok
Mmm what's that strange smell from my exhaust...

I found the other end of the wiring, it wasn't very far away but access was tricky. Took me a while to get it unplugged but got there in the end. Dropped the exhaust and left the sensor in place as I thought this would be the safest option, as long as I'm careful when shifting the exhaust around.

It's a big heavy exhaust and lying on my back under the van having lowered it using arms, legs and axle stands, it took me a while to extract meself from underneath it whilst wriggling around in the confined space.

Thanks again for all the info. :D
