Poor idol

Post by pfield69 »

Hi, I have just purchased a 1.9 twin slider with a few annoying problems (so expect to see lots of new topics by me).

This problem is that the van has a poor idol. Sometimes its fine others it terrible. I have a sneaky feeling it is someting to do with the choke or (if it has one)the idol control system. I can see some wires on the carb but can't see where they terminate yet (except the cut off valve).

Does anyone have pics of the wires or some easy system to tell that all is well?

Sounds like you have a problem with a "false idol", the trouble with them is that they are erratic at best :rofl
Welcome to 80-90! Sorry about the rubbish gag, I'm on the red and dehydrated...Someone will be along in a minute to give you a proper checklist for poor engine idle - have you tried the wiki yet?

May help. I'm not a novice when it comes to v-dubs and even the best of us can be foxed by such things:

Thanks.
I would be interested in knowing how the idle stabalizing system worked.
I have checked for leaks, changed plugs, leads, dist cap & arm.
Not had chance to clean out carb.
There is a wire around the back of the carb which appears to stop behind the vacuum advance. Whats that for?
