Toddlers, T25s and seatbelts????

Post by artymax »

Right, so at the moment I have myself and two toddlers ( well 3 and 4 year olds) to transport in my t25 and only two front seats to sit in! as far as i can gather you can either fit an extra couple of seats rear facing behind passenger seat (although my table is there at the mo) or maybe set some belts on the rock n roll bed??? (highly dubious)

What has everyone else done? Any pros and cons for either suggestion?

Cheers

Booster seats are meant to be used with three point harnesses and are now (or soon to be) a requirement by law although they have always been a requirement of safety and good sense.

Two fixed (non retractable) three point harnesses at either side of the rock and roll bed.

These are cheap to buy new and very easy to fit. The top point is through the steel behind the rear vents, easy to reach from outside as you take the vent off. the bottom two points can either go into the front of the slopey bit (this is the standard VW fit) or in my case through the deck in front of the engine hatch. The off side belt goes through the wardrobe, extension pieces are available though I didn't need mine (yet).

If you are lucky the fixing points will be there (various vans and 'velles had them) with threaded points welded in. Even if you are unlucky all it needs is the right sized hole and a spreader plate (either welded in or held in with the seat belt bolt) which you can buy with the seat belt.

Retractable four point belts can be fitted though it becomes very interesting especially if you have a full camper interior. There are "any way up" retractable three point belts on the market which would fit as easy as the fixed ones but I haven't seen anyone use them.

The only added complication is if you have a syncro, petrol tank sits where you want to be placing bolts.

seat belts

Post by aarons56 »

We had a Holdsworth - on the door side we had a 3 point fitted, on the other a 4 point (for a smaller child - he was 4 and it fitted him until he was 7, then we sold that one. Currently got two lap belts) - he wasn't going anywhere! Quickfit in North London did the job.

Yeah that's what I was thinking...Billybaby25 and PoshbossUK have one in their van, ask them for a pic, they wont mind

At least then both kiddies are up front with you where you can keep an eye on them :)

Toddlers, T25s and seatbelts

Post by OLD ONE »

Artymax.. Just had a look. The 2 seat is very good and has belts fitted to frame of seats, strong fittings as from Devon. On one part of the belts is marked BUS BELTS. It also has arm rest on N/S It was fitted on runners, but can be bolted to floor. The belts are lap and diagonal, 3 point mounting but mounted at 2 points. If that makes sense
