Overheating ?

Post by roda50 »

Guys / GIRLS

Bit of help please, on my hols in Padstow and today whilst stuck in Traffic hot coolant started spilling out of the back. The Temp Gauge started rising to betweent half way and the top so naturally i pulled over in a car park(meeting a rude fat and arrogant parking attendant in the process) let the engine cool down and then continued on my journey to a campsite about 2 miles away. The gauge normally sits just over half way and tends to go down when going hills and returns to just over half way when going up. If i put the internal fan on hot it cools it down slightly but does anybody have any ideas as to what caused todays blip ? The red flashes when i turn on but goes off after about 2-3 seconds. The coolant is full in both bottles. Changed the water pump about a year ago and hope to god that hasn't gone which then leads me to ask if this a big problem can anybody recommend a good garage in the padstow area to sort Rita out.

Love and best wishes always

Jules

petrol or diesel?

where was it spilling from?
what are the levels like in the top up and header tanks?

you may be in the early stages of cap failure.

we need no know what engine really, but i may just be a airlock or the cap failing..

the top up tank has three small holes in the very top of it, and will overflow if the coolant level pushed into it reaches this level, and it lands on the exhaust, giving the appearance ot something worse than it really is.

Mine has been doing that since the weather got warm.... spilling out some water.

Problem with mine seems to be the lack of fan activity, does your fan actually come on....?

I know you suggest that it may be sorted out, but it would be nice to know the fan is running too.

Yeah fan works fine, once it cuts in, naturally it cools down the gauge still sits just above half way tho as opposed to last year when it sat just below half way. Strange
