When I turn the ignition and wait for my glow plug to go out on my AAZ engine Type 25 westfalia. My engine won't start untill about 5th time turning over. How do I check to see if my glow plugs are working. Or could it be air getting in the fuel return pipe to the diesel tank. There is a few bubbles in the clear pipe to injector pump, but I don't think this is the problem. There is a few bubbles coming through when i rev the engine.
Thanks for your time
Daz very puzzled

Re: aaz in my t25 not starting straight away, after glow light
the only way ive ever checked glow plugs is by actually removing them from the cylinder head and testing them,
the way i do it (but obviously i dont advise everyone does it this way) is to get the glow plug, get a little piece if insulated cable (wire) like the one that goes to all four glow plugs and then either strip the end of the wire bare or put a little ring terminal on it, then pop it over the end of the glowplug (the nut end) to replicate the glow plug live wire (the one that goes to all four), obviously the other end goes to the live on the battery, be very careful not to short it on the body/battery/anything metal in the vacinity!! then i hold the glow plug body (the bigger threaded bit halfway up the glow plug) onto the earth on the battery, making sure that the live wire is firmly on the smaller threaded bit,
basically this is what happens when you switch your ignition on,
the glow plug should start to heat up and glow red on the end within a couple of seconds, they do sometimes let off a bit of smoke just before they start to glow but thats quite normal,
doing it this way also gives you a chance to check the wires to the glow plugs etc,
check all four like this,
sometimes you'll find a glow plug thats 'sooty' ie black, usually this means that its not glowing BUT still check it as its not always the case.

You shouldn't need to give it any pedal to get it started.
I would continue down the checking glow plugs route if I were you...
